The sugar/cinnamon combination on top bakes into the apples to form a glaze that you make sweeter with powdered sugar icing. It is so fritter-like, yet there isn’t any frying involved
We made this recipe which uses a full cup of sourdough discard. Yes, it seems like a lot of apples but trust us, you’ll want to use as many as they say.
If you aren’t into the sourdough craze there are plenty of other options – here is a recipe that looks equally tasty. We particularly like that the icing includes a bit of sour cream to offset the sweetness. Plain Greek yogurt will work just as well.
